Are you ready for the Hurricane Season?

What’s your plan for dealing with a hurricane(s) this season if we get one?
When it was just my wife and myself it was easy. Not so much anymore, so I’m redoing the safe room and stocking up on items I can cook on the grill.
Looking into hurricane shutters for the windows. Anyone have them and do they work as promised?
There appears to be several different styles.
Do you clean up the trees around your house before the storm?

Fishing Report

After reading so many comments after the semi-weekly fishing reports in the Highlands Today, I thought I would start a forum and see if I get any bites.
Anyways, if any of you out there are fishermen, or fisherwomen, and would like to share your experience with us please toss in your two cents worth. Let us know where you have been fishing and what has or hasn’t worked for you, but by all means do not reveal a special secret spot. (unless you just want to)
I personally struggle to catch fish this time of year. I’m not much of a morning person so I like fish later in the day but the storms tend to get in the way. I usually fish on Istokpoga or the Kissimmee river. Speaking of which, does anyone know when the new ramp on the Istokpoga canal will open? The ramp at the lock a little further down on 98 is horrible.

Global Warming/Climate Change

I searched the forum. Although it’s been discussed numerous times, in numerous threads, it doesn’t appear there’s a Global Warming/Climate Change thread. Now there is.

While I’m here, I might as well offer this:

What if global-warming fears are overblown?

It’s an article about guy named John Cristy - an accomplished climate scientist with no ties to Big Oil who has produced reams and reams of data that undermine arguments that the earth’s atmosphere is warming at an unusual rate and question whether the remedies being talked about in Congress will actually do any good.

His research is funded by NOAA, not “Big oil” or the private sector. His explanation of how urbanization, not greenhouse gases and CO2 emissions, is the reason for temperature variations is very interesting. The interviewer/reporter finishes his article in a Q&A format. If nothing else, read that part.

Example:

Q: - What about the better-safe-than-sorry argument? Even if there’s a chance Gore and Hansen are wrong, shouldn’t we still take action in order to protect ourselves from catastrophe, just in case they’re right?

A: - The problem is that the solutions being offered don’t provide any detectable relief from this so-called catastrophe. Congress is now discussing an 80% reduction in U.S. greenhouse emissions by 2050. That’s basically the equivalent of building 1,000 new nuclear power plants all operating by 2020. Now I’m all in favor of nuclear energy, but that would affect the global temperature by only seven-hundredths of a degree by 2050 and fifteen hundredths by 2100. We wouldn’t even notice it.

He seems like a common sense kind of guy/scientist, but I’d like to hear ya’lls opinion.
