As a member of Seffner Christian Academy’s Varsity volleyball team, I am not proud to say we had nothing short of an extremely difficult start. Many of our players missing due to Swine Flu, we kicked our season off with an eight game losing streak. Not exactly what we had in mind. Last Tuesday we had our first win against Citrus Park Christian, followed by a loss to Indian Rocks, and then a win to Hernando Christian in a 5-game battle. We now have all ten of our players healthy and ready to make the rest of this season a successful one. If we can’t be the team that everyone fears, why not be the one that keeps everyone guessing? It’s way more interesting that way.
Cross Country is a slightly happier story. Last night at Durant, our girls placed fifth out of thirteen teams, with the bare minimum of runners needed. Two of our five girls PR’d, and the rest also did significantly well, Haley Traylor finishing first of the Seffner girls. On the boy’s team senior Andrew Davis has emerged as the top runner, placing in the top fifteen numerous times. Taylor Wiseman, my fellow volleyball teammate and member of Cross Country, juggles volleyball practices, volleyball games, and Cross Country meets, running in her spare time. A new member of the team her very first meet was just three weeks ago. As she came through the finish line with a time of 26: she replied to our congratulations with just one sentence, “Hardest sport I’ve ever done...times one thousand.” We all accepted this as truth; none of us brave enough to experiment.
