I receive numerous inquiries about our education outreach and have never once received phone calls that gave me a bother.
If you did, I guess I understand why you might find it troubling to use your own name.
If one uses a forum like this strictly for social purposes, it’s rather moot anyway. If however, an apsect of your participation is the dispensation of useful information and actions for other citizens to employ, a real name or at least a weblink to same is sure helpful and it adds credence to any staunch politicial or social ideas expressed.
NIGHTBIKER, I can dig staying anonymous if you’re burning some of your employer time or have any other reason to fear adverse bounce back from your employer based on your public expression. Guess that’s one reason over 25 years ago I stopped working for anyone that might harm me in that way.

I can certainly understand the drive to get away from such employers -though its not always so readily feasible for everyone. Where my position is concerned, well were I worked at previously (my ‘old’ floor) the manager and assistant mngr knew I was very conservative, and fairly (hell, very) outspoke about it -but they also knew they could count on me to know when and where it WASN’T the right place to assert ones’ politics -that being at work. They didn’t really care what I did outside of the hospital -so long as I didn’t try to speak FOR the facility (I’m not stupid) or bring the facility into it in any way shape or form. And I always followed that ideal -I never bring up where I work (other than to say ‘at a hospital -and in the Tampa Bay AREA there are over a dozen such facilities with that designation -I can think of half a dozen that I know of personally, and there are a lot more of them than that).
But the division I’m in now (Case management, ER -but CM in general) wouldn’t be nearly so tolerant -these folks have already shown me that they will look for problems, so I’m going to have to be more careful when the campaigns ramp up -because I’m very politically active, and I’m going to be for ‘08 as well. More so than in previous years or elections.)
I’m not going to tank a good job if I can help it -and if using a handle in uncertain areas is what I must do, then its only prudent. I certainly would never use my current one -for those who know me at work, well, it wouldn’t take a mental giant to figure out who ‘Nightbiker’ was -especially if they went to my site. Only a handful of us even ride to work -but anyway, I don’t hide my beliefs or my principles, and love or hate me, you certainly will know where I stand -and I always strive to stay true to my beliefs and positions.
NBIKER, the potential of having your livelihood threatened by honest, open public speech is real and I respect it as a reasonable motivator.
The founders of our country used a variety of psuedonyms while organizing the break from England and active particiapants and movers in political efforts over the past 250 years have done likewise.
However, I do observe that theer’s many folks who go covert thanks to the insulation provided by the Internet and there stated reasons are sure unduly paranoid.
It’s all good. At the end of most days, if someone happens to be taking a strong polticial or social opposition to something I happen to be working on, their choice to work behind a psuedonym will more often help ME than it will help them.

I actually have been on the receiving end of some of his retorts and I enjoy some antagonistic banter it stimulates the mind and ignites a little passion in your soul especially about things you feel strongly about. You just have to have a thick skin and not let things get to you. If it really bothers you that much maybe he is hitting on some truth you might not want to admit to yourself. I have been reading almost all of these forum topics over the last few weeks and while I respect your stance on what you believe you don’t seem as willing to try to see others points of view and believe your own to be the only truth and when people disagree it upsets you. Try to lighten up a little bit you might get a little more enjoyment out of life. Just my opinion though and you know what they say about opinions.

I’d happily knock back suds or any other beverage (my usual of late is water, actually -though my tastes run along Beer -Lagers especially- rums of various regions, wines to some extent -I could never keep scotch down, though -mores’ the pity since it is considdered one of the finer drinks- but I also enjoy Coke, sprite, most things with carbonation and a number without. I even enjoy ‘em with a bit of Vodka -and am known to carry a hip flask from time to time…

Well said and I like your taste in beverages, mine are quite similar especially the Lagers specifically of the Anheuser Busch variety. I saw Steve’s other post about going to Skippers Smokehouse and knocking a few back. I’ve lived here for over 15 years not far from there and have never been but heard it’s nice. I am going to see if the wife is interested and maybe we can make it a TBO forum get together.
