The father of a 2-year-old boy may face additional charges in the child’s shooting death, Tampa police say. Timothy Addison, 37, has already been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm after his son, Timberlan Jerome Addison, died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Addison told police he and the child had been playing on a couch when the boy found a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun that was stuck between the cushions and accidentally shot himself.

What do you think should happen next?

Hmmm, what’s wrong with this picture?  A convicted felon in possession of a handgun that he “forgot” was stuck in the couch.  His son finds and kills himself playing with it and dirtbag dad walks out of jail, temporarily at least, a free man.  Five will get you ten that he misses his court date.  Someone needs to be reminded that possession of ANY weapon, even an airgun, by a convicted felon means jail time.  It’s a shame that his innocent son paid the price, but his father should be cooling his heels in the local jail where he would have lots of time determining where he is going to hide his next gun.....

These are the reasons why we should pray. Too often things of this nature happen to our children. We must not be to quick to judge. Yes he may have a past but I’m sure he loved his son just as much as the rest of us. What he and his family needs now is prayer from the righteous not judgement..... it could happen to any of us at any time. To the family and friends of the father and son may God be with you. We may not understand why God does the things that he does but everything God does works out for the good. Trust in God because he has everything under control.

I totally agree with the fact that the gun should have been kept in a safe place, what I don’t agree with is all of these people passing judgment on this guy during this time of pain and suffering. Yes, he made a mistake that he will have to pay for; for the rest of his life but that doesn’t make anyone better than him. Yes he’s had a criminal past and he was working on it. People have such stupid comments like “this stuff always happens in low income areas”; which is ridiculous. I hope Tim and his family can come together and get through this. No one knows what really happened except God, Big Tim, and Little Tim; only God can judge remember that!

My prayers are with this darling little boy.  Four years ago my precious 3-year-old grandson, lost his life because his father had to have a gun “to protect his family”.  Protect them from what?  These families need protection from the “protector”.  He left his gun on his dresser.  I don’t understand the comments that he was a good father.  If these people were good parents, their children would be waking up this morning, ready to take on the adventures of another day and excited about Santa Claus.  WHEN WILL THESE PEOPLE LEARN?  Culpable negligence??  I think if you don’t lock up your gun as the law states, and a death occurs, the charge should automatically be some type of homicide charge with MANDATORY prison time.  No probation.  These are not accidents.  The only part of this act that is an accident, is the child picking up the gun because they don’t know any better.  The act of leaving a gun loaded without a lock and in reach of a child is a murderous act and should be punished appropriately.
