You don’t need an account to read the forums, but you will need one to post your own writings.

First you will have to click on register.

The registration form requires a Username, Password, Screen Name and Email address.

Also you need to click on a box to agree to the Terms Of Service

Click on submit. An email will be sent to the account you specified. It will arrive in moments. If you don’t see it, check to see if your spam filters put it in with the junk mail.

Open the message, and click on the link under:

To activate your new account, please visit the following URL:

H++p://www.tboforums.com/index.php?EXAMPLE=NOTTHELINK&CHECKYOURMAIL

Now you are ready to post in TBO Forums.

Login and select an area you want to post in. Users can create a thread with the New Topic button, or post a reply to an existing topic.

You can create a poll to go with a New Topic by clicking on:

Add a poll to this topic

Please do not post comments in ALL CAPS. It annoys everyone. A spell check is included under the main message area. Please use it.

Some users have been experiencing problems with spam filters deleting the email confirming their registration.

We have been manually updating registrations, so check and see if your account is working even if you don’t receive an email.

If you still can’t register email with the subject line: TBO Forum Problem.

will not accept a hotmail email address as email

Unfortunately this is on Hotmail’s end. Hotmail bounces the email we automatically send you to confrim the account.

We will still approve an account that uses a Hotmail address. We just have to do it manually, and this takes longer.

Hotmail is not the only provider that does this either.

So hang on to your username and password. Odds are it will be active in a little while if the email address is valid.

If you can describe the specific problem, and which version of Firefox you are using, we will attempt to replicate and fix the problem.

I am using version 2.0.0.1 of Firefox and it seems to work.

A user has asked how to read Private Messages (PM) sent from one user to another.

First you have to login to the forums.

Then look for “Your Control Panel” at the top of the page to the right of your username.

Clicking that will open your control panel. On the left hand side look for “Private Messages” it will probably have a “+” sign next to it if you have never opened it before.

Click the plus sign. You should now have a list of functions:

Bulletin Board
Compose New Message
- InBox (0)
- Sent (0)
Trash (0)
Edit Message Folders
Buddy List
Blocked List

The “InBox” will contain any PM sent to you, and you can reply after reading the message.

“Compose New Message” allows you to send messages to anyone registered in the forums. If you don’t know their screen name you will have to use the magnifying glass to the left of the “Recipients” or “CC” fields to search for the user.

The New Topic button is a green rectangle that should be near the top and bottom of your screen when you are logged in.

Then you have to select an area to post it in. You can select an area from the Forum Home page

Local News and Traffic and Commuting are examples of areas.

You can also create a new topic while you are reading a topic. The button is right next to the Post Reply button as in this example.

Correct.  The previous (early May when I joined) route to the Private Message section is no longer visible.

It looks like Private Messaging was disabled today.

We have reactivated it.

Please let me know if this is working for you now, or if you find anything else that is broken.

God’s Gifted - A Work In The Process - 09 June 2007 01:45 PM

Jim,

How do you reply to a post where the original post you are replying to is shown in your reply?

There are at least two ways. You have to be logged in for either to work.

The simple way is to press the “quote” button underneath the post you wish to quote.

Example 1 Screenshot

The second way is to select only the text you wish to quote with your cursor. Press Control C to save it to the clipboard. Then press Reply like normal. Now press Control V in the subject area of your message. Select the text you wish to quote with your cursor. And press the quote button in the reply window.

Example 2 Screenshot

You can also use the simple first method, then just delete any text you do not wish to quote.

There is always more than one way to skin the internet, so go with what works for you.
