Nightbiker:

I think it is funny that you call what I’m talking about ‘fleecing the taxpayer’ so my husband can keep his job with the county. If you want to know about fleecing the taxpayer don’t look at the guys outside busting but for the parks department. Look at Pat Bean. She has already stated that she is going to switch all county vehicles for hybrids, and has already upped the allowance for people that bring county vehicles home from $400 a month to $600 a month. We can also look at the art program in the county. Now these are fleecing the taxpayer. And lest I forget, the county commisioners managed to vote themselves a raise as soon as tax cuts started getting talked about. They are some of the most worthless people in the county. Why can’t we just let go a couple of them?

Talk about selfish.  Does you husband not have other talents and are you concerned that he would not have the benefits he does with the county if he loses his job?  Many others lose their jobs each day, and do you help them out, or are you just concerned about yourself?

Let those on community service clean up our parks and do repairs.  Some of those convicted and doing these hours have talent that can and should be used.

I want my taxes lowered.  I do believe that we need to start at the top and weed the useless employees and overspenders out.  We have too many county employees that are wasting my money anyway.

Michaela, do you know if the county child care is still free, or is it done by others, like the YMCA at a price?  I did not think there was any place that offered FREE child care any more.  I don’t think that the Parks Department does it anymore period.  I think, but am not sure that they do the licensing for child care now.

It seems like the cut isn’t as much as was promised to us.  I got my TRIM notice the other day and it was less than $120.00.  Doesn’t seem like it was worth it, with all the folks loosing their jobs, and the cuts in services.

Thank the mulletheads up in Tallahassee.

Same here, a whopping $180. If they’re really cutting services, where is the money going. It was a windfall for them in the first place, via a 4 year property value surge.

As far as I know they still offer free after school care at the park that’s attached to Riverview Elementary in Riverview.  This is the very same program that took care of my kids when they went to Riverview Elementary.  And the program was headed up by the Parks and Recreation Dept.  Anyone could use this service.  Rich or poor.  And during the summer they took them on field trips!  Those did cost extra, but still!  It’s a great program.  Since my sons went to it, they’ve since built a new building and playground as well.

My sons are now 25 and 28, so it’s been a long time.  But like I said, as far as I know, they still offer the program.  I would check with Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation and ask them if you or someone else is interested.  I highly recommend it.  My kids enjoyed it, and my tax dollars were working for me!!  What a concept.

One more thing, used to, you could go to ANY of the community parks in this area and have the very same program available to you.  Hope it still exists.  Good luck!

I appreciate your response on this.  Thank you for the information.  I will check up on this for my nephew and his wife.  They are in need of child care in that area.  Hopefully I will have a pleasant suprise for them tomorrow night.  smile

There should not be any kind of Property Tax. If you don’t want these crazy taxes, register Republican and vote for Ron Paul in the primary.

huh, ok.

What I was saying was, getting rid of property taxes will never happen.  No matter how much we would like it to.  Therefore, “dream on”

Childish?  I’m afraid, the only thing childish I see is your response!

Not if we elect Ron Paul and sign the petition for a fair tax.

And just what is Ron Paul going to do to end state real estate taxes?

You know that pesky part of law that says the feds cant interfere in state issues.
The money has to come from somewhere, which means some kind of tax.  I prefer things as they are to the option a state income tax.  Even worse the is the idea of ending up with both.  Sales tax isnt going to cut it, and will hurt the lower class more than anyone.

Peg, if there were no taxes who would pay for the police and fire departments, roads, traffic lights, schools, etc?  Nobody likes to pay taxes, but you’d have to be pretty ignorant to think you’d like to live in a place where you didn’t pay any at all.

I actually think Florida could pull it off, having no Property taxes. We need to raise the sales tax and other state and county service that could be used to charge users. The biggest thing is to legalize gambling and have several strategic areas within Florida to build small gambling towns. One between Tampa and Orlando, one between Daytona and Miami and another in North Florida. Florida has so much more to offer then Vegas if it really wanted to go after that industry it could crush Vegas over time. Vacations to golf, gamble, and the beaches and sun for the wives....and Disney for a couple of days for the kids. Win, win, win situation for the tourist industry and we could generate all the money needed to eliminate property tax for Florida residence. That is if the politician’s don’t steal it and the counties are assigned a REAL budget force to live within it means.......it could happen. However, I am not holding my breath
