Does anyone on this forum know why HCC’s baseball program has been so consistently terrible for so many years?  They just never seem to get better, year in and year out...quite the opposite in fact, which is a real shame since you would think they would have at least ONE winning season over the last 7-8 years.  Is it a reflection of the Athletic Department, or of the entire school, or is somebody over there getting paid off?  I’m retired and attended yet another game a week or so ago to see how my tax dollars are being spent, and it was downright embarrassing.  There are HS teams I’ve seen in this County that could take them apart.  Is anyone familiar with which are the really good programs among Florida CCs?

I gave up going to see HCC play two years ago. They’re just never any good.  Besides, it’s well known they don’t have any pitching.  Unless they get help on the mound, they’re not going anywhere this year either.  It’s a shame, but it’s always something bizarre with them.  Manatee CC is a real good team, extremely well coached.  St. Petersburg is always good too. I enjoy watching them play.  Different county, but you should drive over.  Chipola up in the Panhandle is always good, but they’re too far for me.

I have been a big league scout for 17 years and just retired. HCC baseball team has been a joke for awhile now… they wouldnt know talent if it smacked them in the face. i have gone to a couple of there games and it was more for comedy reasons than to watch a good college baseball game. They are coached poorly and how they are not good baffels me. They have had plaenty of oppurtunities to pick up great baseball players… How are you not good when you have the oppurtunity to grab kids from power house High Schools, Like Jesuit, Hillsborough, Tampa Catholic, Alonso,.... the list goes on and on. And your right they HAVE NO PITCHING!!! which reflects on the coaching staff!!!! They have never had a promising season and things need to be done about this downfall of a program. And i i know alot of scouts stopped going to there games due to the fact of how poorly the program is run by the coaches… which is really hurting there players that actually might have some talent. I cant tell you the amount of times i have had conversations with scouts and they just cringe when you say the words “HCC baseball. I see as of right now that they are below 500 again… i thinks thats hacc goal as a baseball program lets just get to that 500 mark ha ha ha

Well, I’m sorry to hear that Marcus.  I had heard that when HCC held their “Scouts Day” last fall, NO MAJOR LEAGUE SCOUTS SHOWED UP!!  That says alot, but after reading your post, I understand why.  The team is just plain bad, especially their pitching.  This travesty of a baseball program is due solely to an inept coaching staff, led by Mr. Calhoun.  The program has been mired in pure mediocrity since his arrival.  And his numerous Assistant Coaches are even worse.  They should all be fired and sent packing, back north, but someone in the Athletic Department at HCC is obviously protecting them.  That’s unfortunate for the kids AND the taxpayers of Hillsborough County.  It’s really sad to witness as yet another HCC season spirals into the ground. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!

This team can hit some, but the pitching and coaching staffs are terrible.  Their lousy record speaks for itself, just like last year, and the year before that.  And now players are quitting the team, well before the season is over.  No post-season again!  What the heck is the Athletic Director over there doing?  Bring in some smart coaches for Pete sake.  HCC deserves better.
