Yes, I do think this is silly. I believe things happened the way they did, because they were MEANT to happen exactly the way they did. Probably opened a can of worms with that one, but, oh well.
And, there are so many more things which are happening in the here and now that need to be addressed and taken care of, that worrying over what happened thousands of years ago is ridiculous and serves no real purpose.
Pontius Pilate did what he did under pressure from the Jews. Pontius Pilate had misgivings over crucifying Jesus, and questioned the Jews as to why they so vehemently wanted Jesus destroyed. Politics played a huge role in Pontius Pilates’ decision.
Normal Guy could definitely shed more light on this than I could.
First, I do think it’s silly (check out the link: “entertainment” and “weird news"). Pilate was certainly pressured—he didn’t want the Jews getting worked up and then have an insurrection on his hands. Still, he could have acted boldly and denied their demand. He still had the free will to do that. But he acted as most men in power would act (I think God was counting on that).
The Jews (or, rather, their leaders) considered Jesus a threat to their power over the people; Jewish law prohibited them from imposing a death sentence on Him, hence they had to go to Pilate and the Romans.

“he acted as most men in power would act...” end quote.
Some things never change do they?
“He could have acted boldly and denied their demand” end quote.
And again, the same problem we have today!
Do you suppose there is ANYONE in our government that has the courage and backbone to truly do what they believe is right, even if it goes against the party line? And if there is such a person, who is it?

It is even more impressive when men of courage stand up to the church and defend science and reason.
I hear that heretic Galileo is finally off the hook for his blasphemy. The church dropped its ex-communication punishment against him centuries after he claimed the earth revolved around the sun.
Does that mean god finally changed his mind? Or does it mean the church somehow *gasp!* made a mistake?

You and Steve have made clear your views on this matter over and over and over and over. It isn’t any more effective when it’s repeated ad-nauseum. If anything now it sounds like blah blah blaaah blahhhhhhhh.......

As the story goes, under Jewish law Jesus had his trial before the Sanhedrin where he was found guilty. The prescribed punishment is stoning but the Romans don’t allow the Jews to execute anyone. They have to go to the Roman Governor for an execution. Pilate doesn’t want to take sides in a religious dispute so he sends Jesus to the Jewish King for judgement. Herod doesn’t want to take sides either and returns Jesus back to Pilate. Pilate tries to avoid making a judgement by turning the decision over to the crowd, making them choose who to release, a murderer or Jesus. When they don’t choose to release Jesus, Pilate asks the crowd what to do with him. They called for his crucifixion. Pilate avoided making a decision and was able to wash his hands of responsibility. A great politician!

Pilate wasn’t the judge, he was the executioner.
So interesting! And yes, Pilate was the epitome of the politician. Yet for many years, he was made out to be entirely responsible by many people.
They’re definitely not myths. Wish I could spew out all the facts and figures for you regarding this, but Normal Guy and others are way better at that than I am! So I’ll leave it up to those who know more on this subject than me.
"Wish I could spew out all the facts and figures for you regarding this”
SH: Well it’s not that difficult to assemble “all the facts and figures” on this topic since we’re almost exclusively limited to the accounts of the Holy Bible.
“They’re definitely not myths”
SH: Certainly not to those who have accepted them as facts.
The Holy Bible is so replete with inaccurate and contradictory “historical” accountings that very few specific summaries can be relied upon for their veracity.
That’s why many Christians understand that the core concepts of the Gospel as taught by Christ are what deserve the greatest focus.
Specific historical points within either the Old or New Testament are far less important. Thus we can build a life founded on the Christian gospels without being distracted by quibbles over which parts of the Holy Bible are historically inaccurate.
Some Christians hate Jews because they killed Jesus. If the biblical story is true, they should thank the Jews for making salvation possible. Then again, why did anyone have to die for salvation?
Many Christians (mostly fundamentalists/evangelical sects) hold strongly to the belief that one must “accept Jesus Christ as Saviour” in order to realize eternal salvation.
Many other Christians have realized that the call is instead to “accept the gospels of Christ” in order to receive eternal salvation.
IOW, spiritual salvation is immediately realized when one elects to accept and embrace the core principles of the Christian gospel - namely, practicing unconditional Love and unconditional Forgiveness towards ones self and towards one’s fellow man.
Once this is realized, it’s rather inconsequential who or what group of people orchestrated the crucifixcion of the Master Rabbi known to many as Jesus Christ.

If I’m not mistaken there is more historical proof than what is just stated in the Bible. And whether or not you believe Jesus to be the Saviour, it has been proven that there was a Jesus and that he was a prophet with a large following at the very least. This is a historical fact, as is the demise of Jesus.
But irregardless of anything that I or anyone else can put forth as any kind of proof, what difference will it make to you and others who are so adamant that there is NO saviour? Non-believers are SO sure of themselves. Yet they can provide no ‘proof’ as to their own claims.
I remain a faithful Christian. Not everything can be quantified, explained, seen, heard....sometimes all you have is faith. It’s enough for me. Even if it isn’t for others.
It’s only urgent that one accept Christ as a physical “Saviour” if one elects it to be. So if that’s what works for you, then I commend you for using it as a contributor to your faith.
As for “other historical accounts” from 2000 years ago, they’re extremely spotty at best.
For those who demand Christ be their literal physical “Saviour”, it’s not a big deal because they’ve chosen to “accept it on faith”.
For those of us who don’t make that demand and are fully satisfied with embracing the Gospel itself, it’s also not a big deal because we don’t require precise accountings of who/when/where/why from 2000 years ago. The core gospel is all that matters. And though it’s commonly attributed to “Jesus Christ”, he’s certainly not the only one who has delivered the message over the past 2000 years.
Finally, for those who don’t believe Christ existed, it’s also moot who killed him, when, where and why.
THUS BRINGING us full circle to the original Topic link posted by KATERPUNK. It’s kinda silly for anyone to be burning much time or energy trying to “give Jesus Christ his day in court”.

FRIENDLY point of order...There is no such word as “irregardless”. I’m presuming the word you intended was “regardless”.
