Yes this “trial” is silly.  What a waste of human effort.

So why did God create hell?

It looks to me like he created humans just to torture them. Hell of course, is part of the torture.
So much for a loving God.

There’s hardly a page in that “good book” where he isn’t threatening or killing people. He demands blood sacrifices.  Put yourself in his place and wonder about why you would want blood.  What does it do for you?
Who would worship someone like that?
Kind of like the woman who continues to live with a guy with a bad temper who beats her up every time something isn’t just exactly right.

Those who plead “faith” are really afraid that everything they believe is a lie.
Too bad they do not have the courage and self confidence to do some research and learn to think outside their self mposed mental prison of “faith”.

They have been duped into believing “leading authorities” without any supporting evidence.
The maintenance of this ‘authoity mystique” depends on limiting access to information and limiting access to information that would lead one to challenge the position of authority.  They bombard your head with one point of view.  YOu are not allowed to know anything else.  Or you will go to the hell god created for you.

Wow, OhZone. A lot of anger here. If you don’t believe so much, then why this attack? Just say you don’t believe and leave it at that.

Namjah, unfortunately, you can’t ask people to be rational who don’t know the meaning of the word.  Nor the meaning of the word respect.

It’s a good thing to have religions as most of you practicioners really need them.  I for one am glad you all practice religion.  Eventually you might become ligious?  Then you can become religious.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to pass Hell’s entrance exam until then.  Assuming you realize even Hell has minimum requirements?

And here is the perfect example of what my last post talks about.  Thank you for providing it.

The enlightened among us know that in fact, “God did not create Hell”.

It’s a man-made creation and participation is completely voluntary.

Religious insititutions stifle natural curiosity and tightly control our innate spirituality.

This is way too broad a generalization. Many famous scientists were religous men.

The Age of Faith was a period where most world governments were extensions of the church or religious orders.  As the Cathlolic, Protestant and Orthodox sects battled for control of the human race, scientists and intellectuals were routinely ex-communicated and killed for their blasphemy and sorcery.

These so-called Dark Ages, contrary to logic and reason, were periods marked by cultural, social, economic and technological decline.  Compared with contemporary development, it was a epoch of frightening intellectual staganation.

Men were imprisoned and tortured for publicly stating that the earth was round, or that the earth revolved around the sun during the time of the Inquisition.  See Galileo, Da Vinci and Torquemada.

Also check out the Index of Forbidden Books.  You know who the book burners are.  See Library at Alexandria.  And ask yourself why all the ancient Greek marble statues were burned.

The only way a scientist could have any credibility before the Early Modern period, and preclude torture and imprisonment by the church/state, was to profess to be religious.  Ignorace of history means you’ll stand idly by while it repeats.

It is not the faith that is flawed, it is man himself. If “religious institutions” are doing any “stifling” or “controlling”, it is due to the men running those institutions. The faith itself can not be blamed. It is not in our nature to be kind, gentle, and loving. Those acts require effort and discipline. It is far easier to be cruel, to subjugate, and to hate. All the things you said are true—but they are because men were behind them.

I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. -George Carlin

CC asks: Then why baptize babies?

SH: It’s man that is doing the baptizing in hopes of insulating the infant from the human-created boogey-oogey of a post-life “Hell”

In this case, Ozone is closer to the truth by far than some of you.  It is Ozones opinion, just as you have typed yours and submitted here for all to see, where is your respect for that.

Reading the post, there was a lot of thought put in that.....I mean the kind of thought it takes for someone to see over the YEARS that the bible is full of horrible things that your “kind and merciful” god has demanded that they do.

Yet, it is ignored by the “faithful” and justified by them too.  How do you justify killing every man woman and child?  How do you do that?

If the “BIBLE FACTS” were on trial instead of jesus, they would be condemned as terrorists and genocidal ones at that.

People say god is the potter and we are the clay and he has every right to do as he wishes to his creations.....and this is one of the justifications for these murders being ok........wow!

So if I have a “child” I can do anything I want to it?

I created it from a egg........sperm....its mine I birthed it.

You see.....it sounds nuts.

People keep bringing up the Old Testament, where God did those terrible things that were mentioned (or allowed them to occur). But we’re living under the New Testament. I think God realized that the former approach wasn’t working, so He sent His son. Read the New testament message.
