Playoffs Already A Safe Bet?

The Saints are apparently a one-year wonder. The Falcons, even after winning for the first time this week against Houston, aren’t scaring anybody with Joey Harrington at quarterback.

The Panthers looked dispirited from the beginning against the Bucs in a critical early-season showdown in the NFC South.

So is there even a chance that someone within the division can make a legitimate run at the Bucs for the South title and accompanying playoff berth?

We did lose two starters for the season today.  I am especially concerned about Petigout lost to the O-Line.

The history of the NFL is filled with teams that went 3-1 and didn’t make the playoffs.  We play Indy next week, so 3-2 is a huge possibility.  We can start getting excited but don’t get over confidant.

Way to early for playoff talk. Our schedule is looking pretty easy after Indy/Detroit, but it’s the NFL and anything could happen. I’m hoping for the playoff’s. Just hope Penn and our 2 Rb’s hold up the rest of the year. 2 season ending injuries in one game is pretty scary.

I’ve been extremely optimistic coming into this season, but I have to agree that it is too early to line up for Playoff tickets. Yes, our division is in a bit of a slump this year, but I wouldn’t count out Carolina just yet. Also, the Saints may come back rejuvinated after their bye week. That being said, we have lost Caddy but thankfully, Graham and Pitt have looked good filling in. Our O-Line has been solid, let’s hope Penn can handle opposing defenders better than he did Spires car (had to throw that in there, lol). All that said, I still feel good about our chances and continuing with my optimism, I’ll say this : 24-17 BUCS win @ the RCA dome. Joey breaks loose again and our D-Line mysteriously shows up for a game. Get in Peyton’s head= turnovers= Bucs win in the first close game of the season.

Don’t look now but Joey Harrington is getting better every week.  Almost everyong agrees that Houston is a much better team this year (that may even break .500) but Atlanta came in with no one expecting anything from them and they won.  I would not write the Bucs a ticket to the playoffs yet.  Give it a few more weeks.  If the Saints continue to stink, Carolina is unable to get Delhomme back at QB, and Joey Harrington is just a flash in the pan then yes - the division will undoubtably be one of the weakest in the NFL (for a change) and the Bucs have an excellent chance of winning.  I am just not willing to count anyone out yet, especially Atlanta and potentially Carolina.

The Bucs get inside Mannings head?  What could your defense possibly offer up to confuse Manning?  He is going to pick you apart while he simultaneously runs it down your throat.  Didn’t he throw four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat you guys when you had a defense?  Guess what, he is better and you are not.

Lets see our defense will get in the backfield and get into Mannings head. Peyton Manning is going to run it down our throats? Hows that, with his 6.5 -40yrd dash speed? Come on...Who does he have to throw to now that Marvin is down?
Phillips is playing like a bat out of hell, Barrett Rudd was just named NFC defensive player of the week. Philip Buchannon is finally living up to his cred. Ronde is just the man.
Your defensive line is overrated and they wont be able to stop our run, especially since your best LB is gone for the year.
Wake up and get your head out of the Horsesazz

Dear loser,

So Tim Wansley played all 11 position on defense?  You are a complete idiot.  Where was the pass rush when Manning dropped back to pass built a campfire and toasted marshmellows before toasting Wansley.  Now what could your current defense offer up that Manning cannot carve up.  Nothing.  Now give the NFC to Dallas and let the big boys in the AFC decide who is going to beat them in the Super Bowl.

haha it was 35-7 bucs at one point you joke.  WOW manning did a good job to get his team in a nice whole like that didnt he and then got bailed out becuase of a bogus rookie becuase our normal starter shut him down. 11 positions huh. shows how much you know about football and the bucs D. go watch the game again and watch marvin burn tim wansely again and again and again. I guess throwing on one guy makes it 11 somehow also you can state that he was back there and had all day but you are just saying that to try and backup your point when in reality you have no clue how long he had back there. BTW if the bucs win this week you wont be around running your mouth on here i’m sure. So heres an idea. go take your bandwagon jumping behind and go back to your colts forums and find a colts circle jerk thread and talk about how great manning is and how much you wanna pump his stump.......

The NFC East produced three of the six playoff teams last year. Home field advantage went to the Chicago Bears at 13-3. The next best teams were 10-6. One single 8-8 team made it into the playoffs last year, the Giants.  (All of this from just the NFC).

Looking at the standings today. There is one obvious playoff team: the Dallas Cowboys ( likely to get home field advantage). Each division has to have at least one representitive and as it stands it looks as though Green Bay (healthy) and the Seattle Seahawks (veteran) are going to represent theirs. Before delving into OUR division, the Packers are likely to get a run from the Lions. If the Lions take some games from Green Bay, they could have 9-7 records in the division. The same goes for Seattle, with San Franciso (unlikely) or Arizona (very possible) taking a few games from Seattle. If this happens and we are capable of going 10-6. We would have home field over these teams which would make a HUGE difference in the playoffs. It’s not hard to believe that we would TIE for division lead at the end of the season against Carolina or New Orleans. If this is the case, it’s who won the inter division games. We’ve got a leg up on both teams at this point. What it looks like is most important here is the AFC SOUTH. We pull wins against Jacksonville and the Texans, that would mean that Carolina would have to beat at least two out of the three also AND take the last game against us. Basically, if the Colts beat Carolina this week then it’s a matter of who wins in the AFC South. If the Panthers WIN this week, they have a big leg up on the division. If you want to look at the playoffs ask yourself this :
Who’s your favorite to win 3 out of 4 in the AFC south? Us, Carolina, or the Saints?

QUote me now, because this may very well be the way it looks :

1. Dallas Cowboys (12-4) *Homefield*(first round bye!)
2. New York Giants (10-6)(wild card)
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers(10-6) division champs(first round bye!)
4. Seattle Seahawks (9-7)(division champs
5. Green Bay Packers (9-7) division champs
6. Carolina Panthers (9-7) wildcard (win tie breaker with Detroit with better conference record, losses coming against us and AFC South)

Schedule and Predictions
Jacksonville : win 21-7 (5-3) (injured QB, run game contained)
Arizona: win 30-13 (6-3) ( injured QB, they’ll fall behind early)
@Atlanta: win 17-10 (7-3) division games are tough and Harrington comes back in
Washington loss 20-10 (7-4) tough game against a new rival
@New Orleans loss 35-10 (7-5)(reggie bush at home, means 150+yds.)
@Houston win 17-15 (8-5) (Houston can only manage field goals in a game too close for comfort)
Atlanta Win 23-20 OT (9-5) Another tough one, Matt bryant in O.T.
@San francisco win 21-14 (10-5) Not as close as the score suggests. We clinch division title)
Carolina loss 28-17 10-6)(Carolina clinches wildcard berth with Detroit loss at Green Bay)

Look at the other schedules and you’ll see the same as I do.
