Since August 2006, the state has offered free hurricane inspections through its My Safe Florida Home program to help residents better fortify their homes. As part of a quality assurance review, the state is re-inspecting thousands of homes to make sure the first inspections were accurate. An analysis of the two reports is due later this month.
The Tampa Tribune randomly selected 72 homes across the state and found widespread discrepancies between the two inspection reports.
