Alonso High School staged “The Laramie Project” this week, a play that explores the death of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student who was beaten and left to die on a fence. At one point the show was almost canceled because of concerns about the language in the show.
How much control should a school have over the plays students perform? Should all plays be edited to take out offensive language? Should high schools not perform shows about controversial subjects?
