My best friend does that too. I think statistically that could catch up with you eventually; such as riding without a seatbelt, or smoking.  (I used to work for hospice) Personally, I just don’t want to take a chance.  I see it as kind of like playing with fire.

SH: Odds of a private residence in most parts of Florida being burglarized by a stranger are hundreds, if not several thousand to one.  So if we want to talk “statistics”, it’s really not too risky to leave your front door unlocked - especially in a neighborhood like mine.

It is really funny to hear again and again not in my neighborhood. Nothing is never going to happen to me like someone missing in my life. I will never get mugged unless I am in a bad neighbohood.. We hear that over and over again.

Reality is people get mugged in nice and bad neighborhoods.  Cars and homes are broken into all types of neighborhoods. Children are stolen and adults get lost in this society.

First questions you are asked. Was your doors locked?  How many people say I forgot and I never lock them because.................. How much taxpayers money do we waste on police investigating crimes that could have been stopped by just simply locking the door.

I say the smart thing to do is to check that your doors are locked. Stop listening to the odds of things happening. Locking doors is a really hard task. Some people always have to learn the hard way.
By the way I was mugged in a nice naighborhood. Someone did get into my unlockedcar and steal in a nice neighhood. What are the odds of happening. 100% when it happens.

I’ve lived in major population centers my entire adult life and never lock my front door upon departure.

Don’t lock my truck either.

So far, no one has kidnapped either one of my cats, nor my guinea pig.

Cool, What’s your address and where do you keep your stash?

Nick-

I want in as well. I will bring out my old military gear and we shall do a midnight run over at Steve’s place. I am guessing this place is somewhere in Clearwater?

SH: Always a Wise Guy in the room…

Just drop by 1234 Main Street in Happyville FL

It’s in a special hidden compartment beneath my waterbed ala the Cuban ex-pat psycho in Elmore Leonard’s CAT CHASER.  Which I keep locked....Go figure

(now if I could just get Kelly McGillis spread on the waterbed like dude did in the movie version....I’m pretty much done with Life’s Checklist)

SH: Loribelle, in all seriousness, I can’t explain the reasoning and motivation of Florida’s thieves.

I can only honestly testify that none of them steal from me.

The vast, vast majority of people are honest and will not commit thievery.  So I’m pretty much on the good side of the equation at all times.

You must not have been watching Dateline or Nightline or whatever that show was about this (recently).  I am very proud of you for taking our ribbing so good naturedly!  I am more worried about brutal home invasions than thieves.  It’s amazing to me that you don’t even think twice about it.  Let’s talk again when we are both 80 & see what happened.

I’ve got 30 years in without being notably harmed.  I figure I got decent odds to hit 80 in similar shape.  See you then.
