BRANDON - The Streak is over.

Brandon’s wrestling team lost to Homestead South Dade 32-28, in the finals of the Jim Graves Challenge the Streak Dual Meet Tournament Saturday night at Brandon. The loss snaps the Eagles’ national-record winning streak at 459 and national-record unbeaten streak at 468.

It is the Eagles’ first loss since Feb. 20, 1973, when Bradenton Manatee defeated Brandon 28-19 in the final dual meet of Brandon’s 1972-73 season. Brandon and Manatee tied 24-24 on Jan. 26, 1974, nine matches into the 1973-74 season; therein lies the nine-match difference between the national record streaks.

What are your thoughts? Did you ever think Brandon would lose, or were they bound to suffer a setback sooner or later?

Or would you just like to offer Brandon some words of encouragement?

Everything has to come to an end, but this is an amazing streak that will probably never be matched.  Sadly it never got the recognition it deserved outside of the Brandon area.  People can comment on the lack of competition or that other area schools don’t take the sport serious, but even then you have to assume a school is going to get lucky one night or Brandon is just going to have a bad night at some point.  Those assumptions never came true through four decades of winning.  I give a lot of credit to Brandon, because most streaks don’t end because the team actually puts on a tournament to really challenge it.  I’m proud to be a Brandon High School graduate and proud of the streak.  Go Eagles and start a new streak!!!!!

I too, am proud to be a graduate of Brandon High School.

I was gonna be a grad, was even a sophmore.......

then the Dad decided to be a Country Squire.

Good bye city lights.....

East Bay, sometime in the seventies.....

Too bad they didn’t know how good South Dade was going to be last year they could’ve taken them off the schedule.

Too bad it had to end that way. It’s sad to know really.
