Hey, folks, this is Matt Neistein. I sit on the Trib’s editorial board, and we’re setting up a thread for each candidate as we prepare to release our endorsements for the state primary online tomorrow (that’s Friday, Jan. 11, for the calendar-challenged) at 3 p.m. So make sure you swing back through tomorrow afternoon to check those out, and let us know what you think in here.

Huckabee comes across as genuine, and not like a game-show host (or wanna be). I don’t know about his national sales tax idea.

Thompson will be well respected by foreign leaders. He is a statesman, not just a politician. That has been proved in the way he conducted himself in the debates and his campaign.

I completely agree with those pleading with Fred to stay in the race until the end. His support will grow as voters are exposed to each candidate. Also, when strictly Republican primaries are held, the picture will change. As Fred starts to win those, the sheeple and MSM will start to realize he is popular and has a chance.

If people learn about Huckabee, they won’t like what they see. Along with the most notable issues with him, he will strip more personal freedom from us. In Arkansas, he made teachers in the public schools grade their students (on their report cards) on how obese they were. This outraged many parents, and dashed the self-esteem of many kids (even those who wouldn’t even be considered ‘normal’). (The food-police will have a hayday! One of the first things the next governor did was rescind that.) Also, he will impose a national smoking ban, and probably anything else he can to dictate peoples habits that he doesn’t agree with. This is as bad as the liberals who would impose socialized health care. You think the media and government is overstepping its bounds now in trying to control individualism! I know these things about Huckabee because I live in southern Missouri and know quite a few people in Arkansas. I can’t begin to tell you the deceit and dirty tricks he pulled down there.
re McCain: I can’t see the majority of people standing for amnesty for illegals. We are likely to take arms if this illegal immigration problem is not resolved! And, I don’t say that lightly.
I sincerely believe that the only reason McCain is so popular is because he has ‘used’ his POW experience for political gain. Every time I turned around the last few years, there has been something on TV exalting him in that regard. Also, every campaign ad of his that I have seen refers to that (even showing pictures of him when he was a POW). That is low, in my opinion. I don’t know of any respectable man who was a vet who even wants to talk about their similar experience. As I see it, his military record and desire to rid congress of passing pork projects are his only attraction.
I have been holding my nose and voting for 35 years. You are the first candidate (for ANY office) that I have really been proud of. Also, you are the only one whom I have ever donated to or ‘campaigned’ for.
March on, Fred! The country and our future require you!
I really appreciate the sacrifices you, your family, and supporters are making in this effort.

Guess you were the only one who felt that way!  Fred never showed any desire to run for the office- just seems he expected it to be handed to him like one of the characters he plays in the movies.  And then there were 4 ( Giuliani, Huckster, Paul and Romney).  Soon to be 2 ( Bye Bye Paul and Giuliani after next primary).

Huckabee, the Baptist Preacher and Theocrat?
His mind is tainted and he is unable to think clearly.
If he had his way he would set the world back into the dark ages.

Except for Ron Paul, we have a really raunchy crop of culls to chooze from.
