(AP) - Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race today, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voter’s sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned.

His populist message isn’t getting any traction right now. Even his former running mate Kerry didn’t endorse him.

You ( the Trib) did a huge disservice to the State and the Nation by endorsing Obama over Edwards in the Florida Primary.  Your continual rant about Edwards being a lawyer ( so is 85% of the rest of the Government in Washington - not to mention Hillary and Obama as well!) is tired and right out of the Republican playbook of the mid 1990’s.
Bash the Lawyers because they made money suing the corporations .  Sorry, some of these corporations needed to be made accountable - or would you prefer more Enrons and Tycos and the rest of the Bush supporting corporations who bilked employees and investors out of their pensions, retirements and savings with little or no repercussions from the friendly Federal Government?
John has made himself wealthy and I don’t begrudge him a dime of it. i have met him in the past and came away impressed with his empathy and sincerity.  Obama strikes me as someone who decided to run after reading polls conducted after the last Democratic Convention where he was picked by Kerry to be the Keynote speaker.
Hillary would bring out too many repubs who were going to sit this election out and swing the election back to the GOP.
Edwards does not need the amount of foreign experience that you claim he is lacking ( how much does Barack have, btw??) as his focus is, and should be, getting the USA back on solid financial feet again and that starts with the blue collar, middle class , hard working Americans who have been squeezed harder the past 8 years than in the previous 80!
Edwards in ‘08- the Tribune be damned!!!

News Flash—Edwards plans on dropping out!. Wow. It’s hard for me to believe, but Hillary Clinton may actually end up being the nominee (though I think she’ll have to fight it out at the convention). I just don’t see her being elected president though.

She can’t get elected.  Too many people who planned to sit out the election because of burnout from the past 8 years ( Republicans) will vote en mass to keep Hillary out of the White House.  She polarizes the country the way few others can and that is not nescessarily good or bad, just the way it is.
I am sorry that Edwards is out of it- I liked his empathy and he was responsible for bringing the economy back into the focus of the debates rather than the usual tried and true topics ( illegal aliens, war, etc). He’ll make a great AG for Obama if Obama gets elected.
Now, who will implode next???????

I don’t know where the Trib gets this “angry” idea from.  He is articulate & mild mannered.  He states firmly what he believes in.  I find him to be in the middle of Hillary & Barack.  I have always liked John Edwards.  This time & the last time he ran.  He is the ONLY candidate talking abouting helping out the middle class.  I hope someone picks him up for Veep.
