I have a rental in Brandon that I bought in 1999. I have been renting this house 3/2 half acre lot on dead end street since 2001. My original note was 900.00 a month for mortgage/tax and insurance and I was getting 1,100 month for it. I was making 200 bucks a month, but that was to put aside for normal wear and tear. Now, 7 years later my payment is 1680.00 with morgage/TAX and insurance and I can only get 1350.00, so I am losing money. Bottom line is that not everyone can be a home owner (Proof of this is the mortgage crisis) and people deserve a home to rent at a reasonable price. This tax situation is not fair to landlords that are trying to do the right thing, but are finding them-self going into the red. Same thing with business, I retired from the AF last year and I own a small business and I am getting tax to death and the idea of dems running things really puts a scare into me. Taxes are out of hand in the state and in the nation as a whole. We need to stop helping those that won’t help them-self. I won’t hold my breath for any real change with the candidate’s that are running for President...good grief. LOL

Just another greedy rich person crying their way to the bank.  You sound like you are losing money like these sports teams (Glazers) always talk about.

Your renter is still paying a big part of your monthly principal therefore putting free money in your pocket.  Someday you will sell this property for 2-3 times what you paid for it and continue to cry poor.

Pay your fair share and be happy.

You missed the part about it all being the Republicans fault.......

How can he be rich?  Because he has a rental property?  By that standard the fact that you have a computer to post on the internet means you are rich.  How do you stand looking at yourself each day in the mirror?  Why haven’t you given away all your stuff to help those that have less?  Why haven’t you stepped in front of a bus so you don’t take up someone else’s oxygen?

Well?  How do you live with yourself, you miserable piece of crap?  Time to own up to what you are, and to take active measures....

RAY’s often abrasive delivery doesn’t belie the accuracy of his Saturday morning post.

If a renter’s price is equal or above 60% of the monthly base cost of keeping the property in your control, you’re receiving continually increasing equity.

A reasonable analogy would be for me to make you an offer to buy some shared real estate.

I’ll pay 60% of the monthly costs.  You pay 40%

At a specified time (say, 15 or 30 years), when the original purchase price is paid in full, you are given 100% control of the property and all it’s worth.

It would be rather absurd to suggest that you’re not getting the far better end of the financial relationship.

Of course it would be preferable to you that “I” pay 85% and you pay only 15% until the note is paid, but that’s not the deal you’re getting right now in Florida.

In the meantime, I encourage you to become more actively involved in the public efforts to modify the property tax system into a more sensible mold.  Your ability to positively affect the reach of the message will be enhanced far above the level of our friendly, but small, internet fraternity here.  I myself am not sufficiently commited to remaining a Florida resident longterm, so remain an interested sideline observer watching to see what people more commited to a long term future in Florida do on this important business.

Ray may often be a financial boob, but that’s hardly any more boring than reading another poster bemoan his self-perceived personal financial complaints.

FINF or anyone else who owns real estate and perceives that they may be on the wrong end of the financial relationship always have the option of shutting down their shop.  The implication often given is that “I’d be better off out of this” when at the same moment remaining in the business.

Seems a rather mind twisting compromise.

Pardon me, but didn’t you offer Oh Zone much the same advice in another thread?

You’re kidding right?  Would that it be true.

This is what our politicians say to each other all the time.

Stevie is right.  It was a bit much.  Or as Bob Uecker would say, “Just a bit outside....”

Hockeyray, I apologize.  No matter what my opinions are of you, that was wrong of me.

Being human is a full time job.  I guess I was taking a vacation that day.
