The ballot was simple.
A yes for Amendment one guarantees less money in the pockets of our state and local government. We have too many employees that were hired when the real estate market went out of control when newcomers and investors were coming in. Now that there is a slowdown we need to get rid of the fat in our government. Why not start now versus a year from now. With our national crisis going on. Who can guarantee us that we will get anything next election. Your chance is now. Don’t act like those investors did waiting for more. Look what they got in the end? Ummmmmmm.
Nothing will ever be perfect but it is a start.
I voted no today on Amendment 1. This amendment makes a grossly unjust system even worse. It does not help small business people who need the most help. This amendment is for the greedy people in this state who want all the benefits of living here but don’t want to pay for them. Just because you got here first and never moved doesn’t mean you have more rights the everyone else. It is not just people who moved here from out of state and want to buy a house, it is your kids and grandkids who will get stuck with huge tax bills because you wanted to keep your tax liability low.
Let me take a guess, you are one of the “small business people”.
I suppose since you too want to pay less taxes, that that makes YOU greedy as well. Welcome to the club you greedy person you!!
Your assumption is not valid. I will be awaiting your apology.
Ok, I apologize for calling you a small business owner.
Mikey. I guess you think that is pretty amusing and I wasn’t going to bother to reply since it doesn’t really warrant one but since I am retired I have a little time to try to educate you. I hope you find it amusing when the small businesses you rely on and probably don’t think twice about go out of business. These businesses could include your lawyer, stock broker, accountant, corner deli store, your pool guy, the guy who mows your lawn, your doctor, just to name a few.
Small businesses in this state are in trouble. They all ready pay more in taxes then you do, they have higher mortgage rates then you do and they have higher insurance rates then you do. I know business owners whose taxes have doubled in the last five years and many cannot even get insurance on their businesses. Small businesses form the backbone of our economy, they employ more people then large corporations.

It’s Michaela, and you’re right about one thing, you shouldn’t have bothered to reply. I know what the benefits are to Amendment 1 and don’t want, or wish to hear the rantings of those against it. Just like you don’t want to hear mine. The best way to voice your opinion is to vote. Which we both did.
I voted but sadly, I think the media picks the winners before the polls even open. Their predictions steer every election. When you tell someone his or her candidate is falling behind and probably won’t make it, it is human nature to pick the next best who still has a chance. The media should be banned from airing any type of polls before the election. It’s really not a fair race at all.

I apologize for getting your name wrong. I am curious as to why you are commenting here if you don’t want to listen to anyone elses opinions.

We were asked by Ms. Velasquez how we voted. And I answered. Listening to someone else’s opinions is quite different from being made to justify them.

When you made an unsolicited reply to my initial post I thought you were interested in an open and honest dialog.
Looks like more people are voting No to Amendment 1...Time will tell
I guess posters to this board are not very represntative of Florida voters as a whole. BayNews9 is reporting 64% for Amendment 1 with 32% of precincts reporting. Looks like it will be close as to whether it gets the needed 60% or not.

your mistaken, one only has to look to the presidential election of 1948 when the media was so confident Dewey was going to win they had already printed papers with headlines proclaiming that victory. Thats the most historical example of the medie getting it wrong, but it has also hapened in state elections as well.
The quick story about a Shop Rag! I swear this has something to do with this thread!!
I used to work as a mechanic for an Airline. The airline supplied us with clean shop rags everyday. A company came, picked up the dirty rags, cleaned them, and returned them for use. These rags cost the airline big money (25 to 50 cents each). They had thousands of them, and we used hundreds everyday. Our bosses were adamant about returning used rags into the dirty bin, even if we took some home to use. Then the airline laid us off, despite the money saved. Well technically, they just moved our jobs up North.
John, one of my fellow mechanics got a job with the city. He was dumbfounded to see the city mechanics use the same rags as the airline. Difference is, they use their’s once and throw them in the trash. It’s too much trouble to clean them, he was told. It turns out that someone might actually have to do something.
This is a true story and only one example of waste. I purposely used this story because it’s about a small amount of waste.. But nickels and dimes add up. Let’s not even talk about the big ones.
If you own a home and voted NO, then you’re either stupid, or extremely misguided about the truth of government waste.
This waste exists on every level of government. It’s time for them to tighten up.
