I know she has a difficult job. Also I consistently support the police everywhere. I don’t think there is “more to the story.” I don’t care what the victim
may have said, NOBODY deserves what she did. I don’t care how bad her day was. More upsetting to me are the individuals that watched and showed no reaction whatsoever. That is very damning evidence. The Sheriff had better make some changes at lightning speed. Tampa is my home and I’ve always loved and respected HCSO, but this incident, in my mind, cannot be swept away. I understand a little more clearly why there are so many people posting on TBO all the time condemning the police. This is very very sad and scary.
My Brother is a Sheriff in East L.A California, he also is on the “Gang Swat Team” for East L.A…
I asked him his thoughts on what happened here with the wheel chair thing...He stated he was not shocked to see her do this...it happens all the time in the jails of Los Angeles Calif.
He said, he sees violence so much sometimes he forgets reality, most that commit these kind of crimes go un-noticed exception of Rodney King issue, which was caught on tape.
His job is a tough call, being on the East LA Gang Squad...he has nightmares from being shot at, spit at, dealing with domestic violence in the Latino Community’s are more dangerous then in the middle class neighborhoods.
My point is some of the deputy’s are from the tough salt and pepper neighborhoods’ or came from a culture where they where exposed to violence & was acceptable practice of family physical abuse.
They needed physiological help, and screened thoroughly before they are even considered for sheriff cadet training, and let loose on any streets of America.
This is no excuse for what she did...but it may be she was raised in a abusive family environment & it’s in her culture to be violent, (Like Mother/Father) and forgot for a moment how to be professional.
My Brother used to be a nice calm & trusting person, now he is a Hole in the Butt...and trusts no one .
His marriage is in the crapper, he can’t stay in a good relationship with friends or girlfriends.
I say anyone that want to be a Sheriff, take a ride a few times you will get to understand right away
what changes their personality’s when you see what they constantly need to deal with.
I did down in the slums of Riviera Beach Florida...it was a complete war zone there.
I would not want to be in law enforcement, I respect their jobs...but when they screw up such as she did...she needs to pay here dept to society for the crimes she committed, “No One is Above The LAW---No One”

Hate Crime indeed. Why aren’t whites demanding justice? Is it somehow legally permissible for blacks to mistreat whites, asians, or whomever? It must be, because it is happening more and more. These same bleeding hearts on TV protesting anytime someone says BOO! in the wrong tone… why are they not demanding justice for this person? How can any thinking person say this isn’t clearly a hate crime and should be publicized and PROSECUTED as such. We’re all equal.. right? We all wanted equal rights… correct? The door swings both ways. Or are they the only ones allowed to scream racism, hate, injustice? If one group is allowed to proclaim it, then we ALL are. Time to pay the piper.
You can scream all you want, no one is going to stop you. Just do it and don’t complain. Not sure what your complaint is all about.
"scream” of course would be a metaphor. Obviously you did not realize that. Do I need to delve deeper into the meaning, or can you grasp the concept of abstract thought and speaking metaphorically? If you can, then will I continue. My obvious “complaint” is dual standards. I thought that was vehemently clear in mine, and other, posts. A dual standard simply means that what is good for the goose is NOT good for the gander. Oh, but that also was a metaphor. So I’ll clarify: 1. any code or set of principles containing different provisions for one group of people than for another. Does that definition assist in your cognitive reasoning?
This thread was started on the 13th and they finally arrested her, or rather allowed her to come in and get booked voluntarily, today, the 16th. Seems like an investigation into the incident would have taken about 15 minutes. Did release of the video stir up enough public pressure to force the arrest?

Oh gee, you’re being discriminated against, it that it? That has affected you, how and when?
Somehow you’ve decided this is a case to vent you opposition to hate crimes bill. There is no basis for your argument in this situation. Do you actually believe this government employee was given some sort of break because she was black? If she was given any consideration, it’s because she’s in law enforcement.
Besides, she will be charged with a form of a hate crime as abusing the disabled carries extra penalties.
When I rate all of the laws on the books that impact my life and well being, hate crime legislation is on the bottom. I’m a well to do, not too old, white male and life is great. I often forget that some people aren’t doing as well as I and need to protest the wrongs in life in order to get a piece of the pie. Stay strong, you’ll get an edge on those middle aged black women if you keep at it.

Bureaucracy out of control. I suppose they were looking for some sort of justification for her actions. The fact that it took them such a long time to determine that what she did was wrong and illegal, just shows how little regard some government employees have for the very citizens that pay their salary. This sort of thing happens all the time in the law enforcement and prison system. Most offenders think about where the cameras are.

No.
Just follow the job description, training and procedures, like the rest of us do for our pay.
Stuka, you seem to have an awful lot of time on your hands. What has happened to me personally is: being sexually harassed at my company, with witnesses, and by an individual having quite a lengthy history of such behavior, and the company choosing to do nothing about it due to his race. That was indeed the reason, because I was told that was the reason. I was also the highest rated employee, and received the highest award for exemplary service at my company. One of only two people to have achieved that award in the 100+ years my company was in business. I was by-passed for a promotion that I not only deserved, but I had actually written the training manual for. It was given to a minority who was inept and completely unqualified. When I asked about it, I was told they had to give it to a minority. The person cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in lawsuits for mishandling, and gross negligence. To my knowledge they are still with the company. In school I was assaulted by a minority for “stepping in front of” them in a packed hallway. So packed that we were like sardines when the bell rang. You couldn’t see who stepped in front of who, as people pushed and shoved their way to classes. I was assaulted from behind. But ignoring the beginnings of the assault, and the verbal assault that accompanied, it continued unabated and in fact accelerated. I continued to ignore it until I was pushed into a wall and hit. I then began to defend myself. When it was separated I was suspended (I was on the honor roll, with no history of any kind of problem, and certainly no violence) and there was no disciplinary action taken whatsoever against the other person because the school did not want to inflame any minority. That is not up for interpretation. That is exactly what I was told. I can name more that have happened to me and also to others I know. The topic on many of the posts I was responding to was that there is a dual standard. Saying these things does not make one racist. I am speaking honestly, and am relating things factually. I have not let these things hinder me in any fashion, but I do have a memory and these things are now a part of that. I have moved on and have continued to be successful, but that in no way negates the things that are happening in this new society we live in. I am a busy person, and came into this forum due to the subject matter. But having a busy life, I cannot continue with this for any prolonged period. And certainly have no desire to make over 900 posts. So say whatever you will, and label people as you see fit. Stuka, with you trying so desperately to appear enlightened and informed in your retirement community with questionably nothing better to do in life than to try to shame people into silence for having opinions that differ from yours....you might consider that some people have actually lived and encountered such things which they speak of. That it isn’t just topical drivel but in fact real life to some people.

1) You’re right I have tons of time on my hands and my library is open for 12 hrs a day.
2) I don’t live in a retirement community and I’m not retired, I just don’t work.
Sometimes employers/educators will offer excuses like race or protected class when addressing complaints from people. Sometimes this is just a stall tactic to avoid discussing the real motivation for not addressing a given complaint. It’s laziness on their part to do so.
I didn’t intend to try to silence your opinion or imply you were a racist. I just don’t see how this deputy has been treated differently because she’s black. Yet.
I have been passed over and shafted many times in my life for a variety of reasons. I’ve learned that I cannot change what other people do to me or what obstacles might get in my way. The only thing I have control of is how I react to a setback or life event. The only thing you can really do is get up and get on with life and don’t let setbacks define you as a person or a professional. It’s baggage best left at the curb.

I agree with you for the most part, however I believe what CRCB is saying that if it were a white person that dumps a black person in a wheelchair it would have been labeled a hate crime from the word go. The NAACP would have called in Jessee Jackson and Al Sharpton to demand a full investigating and call the Hillsborough Police department a catalyse to racism. The fact that she was not arrested right after this happen just proves that Blacks do have preferential treatment. No one wants to deal with black leaders cause they are often misguided or simple have an agenda that will ruin one’s career regardless if one is guilty or not. This is a major issue in this country and I believe people are sick of it and show it on forums were they can voice their opinion without the label.
The injured party does not think it is a race, gender or orientation issue. He believes this is a institutional culture issue. So do I. The infamous Stanford Prison study in 1971 shows how easy it is for good people to become sadists. The experiment had to be terminated after only six days for safety reasons.
What surprises me, is that over 35 years later, there does not appear to be any thought as to how to handle this. The arrested individuals are rarely seen as people, but rather cattle going down the chute. The jailers and guards derive sadistic pleasure in debasing and humiliating the arrestee’s, claiming that this is how you maintain control. No. This is how you maintain dominance over a human being, through physical and mental abuse.
I would hope for something a little better in this day and age. Perhaps it is time to find a new sheriff that can make the kind of changes we need. Gee is up for re-election this November.

I just don’t view this as a racially motivated hate crime. She probably would have dumped the guy had he been black.
I don’t know that a rush to arrest before a thorough investigation would have helped anything. They knew where she was and she wasn’t a flight risk and the crime she committed didn’t indicate that she was a risk to the public. Her bail was about $ 3,500.
She has been charged with the abuse of a disabled person which carries a penalty of up to 5 years. So far, I haven’t heard of any Rights organizations coming to her aid either, so concern of black people getting preferential treatment is yet unfounded in this case.

I agree that this was probably not a hate crime. I am simply saying that if it were the other way around it would be a hate crime until proved innocent.....and by then the damage is already done. This incident was not racially motivated, but it does show that the race card is often used when its not warranted....and is used and often regardless of the situation. To me this is a major problem that is going to tear America apart.
In my opinion, any crime of violance is a hate crime. You dont beat the snot out of someone because you love them, you dont shoot someone because you love them.
