On the other hand, talent like Archuleta’s has more staying power. The people who buy Josh Grobin, Michael Buble or Seal records are not as likely to dump an artist while they follow the latest trend.[/color]
But I don’t think the ‘Adult Contemporary’ market was the envisioned target for the American Idol winner.
I didn’t mean to imply that Archuleta would have to be stuck in the Adult Contemporary genre. I was talking about the level of talent. David Cook is a good singer. David Archuleta is a great singer.
Christina Aguilera is an example of an enormously talented singer that is not an Adult Contemporary artist. She’s still selling lots of records even though her original teen audience has grown up.
But see with Idol, it’s more than just pure singing talent; do you have that ‘star power’, that something extra.
FYI
Idol’s David Cook tops iTunes download charts
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Newly crowned “American Idol” David Cook, already topping the iTunes music download charts, said on Friday he hopes to put out a rock album that will “make the hair on your neck stand up.”
Two days after winning and Cooks’ sales are high, is hardly the test of time wouldn’t you say?
Archuleta’s songs are in the top ten as well. And?
You crack me up Namjah, you just can’t let anything go. You simply must keep the debate going, must have the last word.
Go for it!
