OK, so tell me, what kind of job do you feel the man has done so far? If he dyed his hair would that change the type of job he is doing? What if he cut off a finger or 2? Got glasses? Got a divorce? If none of that would be something you would feel changes the job the man is doing, why do you think anytype of cosmetic surgery would change it? Do you think the city would suffer if he were to receive a rhinoplasty? (nose job) What of he were to undergo lyposuction? How about if he were in counselling for depression or grief counselling? How about if he changed his name from Steve to Jack? Then why the heck would him having his private parts removed/changed have anything to do with how the man thinks? Can he do as good of a job in shorts and tennis shoes as he can in a suit and wing tips? Then why the heck not a dress? What business is it of yours if the man is changing his sex? That doesn’t mean he no longer loves his wife and it certainly, under NO circumstances means he no longer loves his son. It means he is ready to be honest with himself and his family about the way he really feels. He may not be able to sleep with his wife the way he has thus far, but he can still care for and support her and love and support his son as he always has. I truly admire this man for being honest with himself even if it took him this many years to do so. For all of you who think he is horrible and disgusting, I feel the same way about you and really would prefer never to encounter you in public, but I have to get over that just as you should get over this. You intolerant close-minded biggots make ME sick!
Although I disagree strongly with your stance on this particular issue, I do appreciate the fact that at least to me anyway, you disagree without name calling, sarcasm, or any other childish outburst.
I think that cyndiann has also been quite even-handed in her tone, and does a good job of exposing falsehoods. She asks some pretty tough questions, too. Way to go cyndiann!
Your comment that it’s nobody’s business but his own, is inaccurate. He is holding a PUBLIC office as City Manager. Yes, it is our business! And if he wanted to keep it quiet he would have resigned FIRST and THEN had his operation and NO ONE would have been the wiser. He would have changed from man to woman, it wouldn’t have been in the news and he definitely would not be getting all the flack that he is now.
Instead he CHOSE to make it public. He wanted to make a ‘statement’ and a stink! Therefore he suffers the consequences of HIS decision and ill timing.
No I don’t feel sorry for him due to his irresponsible decision making. But I do feel sorry for his family.
Come On. Are you really going to be that stupid?
So, since Charlie Crist is in office, we deserve to know who he is sleeping with and how he’s going to do it.
That’s almost as much of a statement of stupidity. IT IS NOT YOUR BUSINESS. If the man wants to walk around his house naked covered in honey and feathers, let him. My hair is pink and I wear it that way in public. It’s not your business as to why. I just want to wear it that way. GET OVER IT and stop acting like a 3 year old.
Although I disagree strongly with your stance on this particular issue, I do appreciate the fact that at least to me anyway, you disagree without name calling, sarcasm, or any other childish outburst.
We are able to agree to disagree.
Intelligent conversation. What a concept!
I find discussion seems to progress further when each side doesn’t have to continuously duck from the other sides volley of gunfire.
I really feel as though John Q. said it most succinctly, “I don’t believe he’s asking for anything other than to be left alone and allowed to do the job he was hired to do. He’s not having a problem, it’s those surrounding him that are. “
He is violating no terms of his contract with the city of Largo by performing this operation. If you go to the city of Largo’s web site and look at the terms of his employment, they do NOT include firing because of the ignorance of public opinion. And the comments about goats, sheep and other animals. . . perhaps your comments would have generated less backlash had they not sounded so “Deliverance” or if your user name wasn’t “nookie.” Please.
Yes, this man is embarrassed. Yes, his family is probably very embarassed. But frankly, what worries me more than this very competent public employee having a sex change is the blatant ignorance of those who are posting to this site threatening to stir up a lynch mob and hang the man. I hope you don’t vote…

I agree with namjah as well, cyndiann is certainly a welcomed addition to our little sometimes vociferous little enclave.

Well thank you so very much!
Did you notice they don’t answer those questions? It would take them out of their comfort zone to actually answer them.
Some thing that all of you better realize, and call us what you want.....Us Gays/Lesbians are not going away. We are here to stay! Get used to it and get over it!
To my Gay and Lesbian family, keep fighting every chance you get. Everyday gets better!

Cyndiann,
Of course I disagree with the previous kudos. It does not surprise me, that your admirers also happen to be in agreement with you on the subject. Wonder if they’d feel the same way about you if they weren’t?
I find that you are incapable of having a debate without personal attacks on the people who disagree with you. You make up ‘cute’ and convenient excuses and comebacks when you have nothing better to say to an opponent. My guess would be that you’re quite young. And if you aren’t young, then there is no excuse for your childish comebacks.
namjah,
“Does a good job exposing faleshoods”! Falsehoods according to who’s opinion? Yours? There are nothing BUT opinions in these blogs. Who do you think is telling the ‘truth’, other than you and of course your sister cyndiann?
How about going back to the topic and staying with it without bludgeoning each other’s opinions.
Where’s that tolerance that you all keep screaming about? Maybe tolerance is something that you apply only to certain things?
The Mayor of Largo was on tonight, making an impassioned speech in support of Mr. Stanton. I hope he gets to stay.
As for you, michaelajv, I will say this: I was merely expressing what I felt was the tone of cyndiann’s posts (here and elsewhere). Then you use that to attack me. How about YOU stay on topic, and don’t make backhanded slaps at me. Did I mention you when I talked about making false statements? No. That’s something YOU apparently assumed. Looks to me like you read too much into it.
Five Neanderthals to two clear and forward thinkers!
All of Largo ought to be thoroughly ashamed. The broadcast reminded me of the historical witch hunts in many years gone by!
I am a white female senior citizen living in a small town in Central Florida. I am a Christian, and I am at least as good a one as the next person! I am well informed on gender identity issues.
Ms. Black and her cronies ought to try a ride in the back of a bus. Applause to the Mayor and Commissioner Woods! May the five morons someday wake up to what is real. Stanton is not an embarassment to Largo or to all of Florida, for that matter. You five are!
The best word I heard at the end of the broadcast was “Appeal”. I hope Stanton follows through and does exactly that.
Here we try our darndest to teach our kids about diversity and tolerance and we teach them to have compassion and the desire to learn about things different and it’s all shot down in an hour.
I wish the Stanton family smooth sailing. I hoped and prayed you would be retained by the city but with that witch Black gunning for you, I imagine staying in the job would be very uncomfortable.

I’m getting tired of correcting the facts for those of you who choose not to read what really happened yet want to trash the man for things that didn’t happen.
He did not choose to make it public. He was threatened by the press with being outed and had no choice but to beat them at their own game by publicly telling the truth before it was revealed in a way he could not control. I don’t call that irresponsible on his part. It is certainly irresponsible on the part of the press, to use the situation to make news and nevermind his family getting hurt.
How come you didn’t know that? How come you are posting lies? Does it make you feel better to trash this entire family? That is sick!
There is no need for a ‘correction’ as you put it. This man/woman in question is not brainless. He was well aware that being in the job position that he was in, that there was going to be huge controversy and upheaval when it was found out what he was planning to do.
Again, he is working in a PUBLIC position. He knew what was going to happen and decided to do it anyway. No, I do not feel sorry for him. It was his CHOICE to do what he is doing and the timing of it all. Of course it was going to get out to the media! Our public officials are monitored, and SHOULD be. They work for US.
I personally don’t agree with the idea that as long as people are doing their jobs, who cares what they do in their private lives. That’s crazy!!
There is a level of RESPECT and TRUST that we put on our officials. He will loose respect and trust from many people. Those are the facts, NOT lies.
