And we thought Hillary’s pantsuits were getting a lot of press. Already, the selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as Sen. John McCain’s running mate has sparked national television and blog chatter about motherhood, her status as a former beauty queen and even her hairstyle. Is it fair?
Is it funny? Or is it fluff that’s getting in the way of solving real problems?
And the GOP thinks Obama isn’t qualified? This woman has been governnor less than 2 years, and in one of the least populous states. Big mistake by McCain, though I understand why he did it—if you know Palin’s background (and few do), this is a play to the Christian Right.
What a great day for the Democratic Party. John McCain again makes another poor choice. In a failed attempt to win over the disgruntled female Hilliary Clinton voters, he chooses a person who was mayor of a backwoods town and Governor for 2 yrs. She is also currently being investigated for misuse of power as we speak. She has absolutely no capitol hill or foreign policy experience. What in the world was he thinking?
Just because she is a female does not mean she’s a Hilliary substitute. They are complete polar opposites on the issues. John McCain just gave the election to the Democrats on a silver plater. I can’t wait for the VP debate; Biden will eat her for lunch.
She’s Perfect!! I can’t believe McCain had the b@ll$ to choose her! I have a whole new respect for him! It is so funny to hear the Obama supporters talking about ‘lack of experience’ too! When I first heard McCain’s list of candidates ( Palin wasn’t included), I just did a yawn! This is going to totally reinvigorate McCain’s campaign.
She’s young, she’s held an EXECUTIVE position, she’s a mother, her son is serving in Iraq, the latest photos (before this VP nod) is of her visiting wounded SOLDIERS in Iraq! Can this woman do no wrong?? I love it!
Right, she has even less experience than Obama --and she could be ‘one heartbeat away from the presidency’? She was chosne by McCain because they weren’t enamored with his Christian ‘bona fides’; Palin is strongly pro-life and anti-gay. That’s why he picked her; it certainly wasn’t for her experience. As churchfolks wrote, Biden will ‘eat her lunch’ in the VP debate.
Supposidely her sister was involved in a custody battle divorce with a State Trooper. All of a sudden the head of the agency in charge of Alaska State Troopers gets a call and is told to fire Palin’s sister’s husband. The agency head refuses, he’s then fired and it is mere coincidence the trooper is fired. That is very Jeb!like.
She governs a Republican state like Jeb! You can bet big oil runs that state and they own the Republicans.
Troopergate? If that’s her only sin, it’s not much.
So far, the word is that she has worked hard to eliminate Big Oil’s illegal activities. They don’t need to cheat and bribe to do business. She was elected on an anti-corruption platform. I believe her to be genuinely honest.

Tell us what you think.
This was a slam dunk for McCain! Absolutely brilliant move on his part. I watched today as Sarah Palin gave her acceptance speech, and was quite impressed with her feistyness and poise under pressure. It was very obvious that she’s a woman of integrity and intelligence.
Many MANY women will be able to relate to her as a mother, and down to earth persona. I was impressed with her accomplishments as Gov. of Alaska and the no nonsense way that she handles herself.
The Obama camp can’t stand it. They were busy dismissing her the moment she was announced as McCains’ running mate. Make no mistake, it was their BUSINESS to dismiss ANYONE who John McCain picked. They’re screaming, but “she has no experience!” Yet, they’re completely blind to the fact that their own presidential candidate has no experience. Oh, that’s different.
My prediction is, McCain just won himself the election.
Being governor of some small population state like Alaska is one thing, but being vice president? I wonder what her husband’s going to do. He’s a full time fisherman. Will he just stay back in Alaska while she’s out helping McCain ‘run the country’? Aside from the fact she’s got little experience, her family will suffer to some extent.
The Democrats knew Obama was short on experience (though he’s certainly got more than Palin), and applauded his choice of Biden. McCain is long on experience in the government world, but short on private sector experience (he’s worked for the government his entire life), and has physical problems. Tom Ridge or Mitt Romney—even Joe Lieberman—would have been better choices for a man who may, if elected, serve only one term.
I’m sure many women “will be able to relate to her as a mother”, that’s not one of the top qualifications for vice president. This choice was mediocre at best.

I thought her husband had an oil production related job as well. If so, that acquired experience will be most helpful when we start sinking oil and natural gas platforms in the surf off of all the “closed to the public” beaches with their “stacked like cordwood” condos towering to the east..
Obama cries for change in Washington then picks a running mate that’s been there for 30+ years. Some change....
I feel Palin is a good choice. She’s young, bright, willing to fight for what she believes and cares about “the people”.I read that a lot of democrats are saying “she’s no Hillary Clinton.” Thank God she’s not. She’s honest & strong so yep, she’s not Hillary. That makes me very happy. She has my support.
She certainly seems attractive and articulate, and adds some counterbalance to McCain’s grumpy old man image.
I don’t see the inexperience as much of a problem. If she were to become president - not all that unlikely due to McCain’s advance age - there would surely be a whole team of operatives like Carl Rove behind the scenes who have plenty of experience.
This was obviously a move to try to sweep up disgruntled Hillary supporters. But I think the only Hillary supporters that would go for it are the ones who liked Hillary just because she’s a woman, not based on the issues. Certainly there are some of those people out there, but the choice of such a social conservative should also serve to push a larger number of those Hillary supporters back to Obama.

He still needs someone as a second who knows the workings of Washington—and could take over in a pinch. Palin is a political novice and should could be ‘second in command’? This was, as many are saying, a risky choice.

True. One of McCain’s biggest problems is that he’s not an inspirational speaker—he’s way down hil next to Obama. The greatest thing about Reagan was he had that ability—as the “great communicator”—to sweep people up in his vision. McCain is more in the George W. Bush category when it comes to that.
On the plus side, McCain picked someone young and vital—too bad there’s little experience to go with it. I was hoping for Romney.

Need I remind you that the total population of Alaska is about the same as the total population of the city of Austin, TX. Did you also know that before her selection, John McCain had only met Palin once… once. As for EXECUTIVE experience; how much can that be when the total population of your state is about 660K? And for God’s sake can anyone tell me what her son going to Iraq has to do with qualifying you to be Vice President of the United States? Surely there are other Republicans in the party better qualified for the position of Vice Pres. So what is McCain’s logic; he simply doesn’t have a clue. If this is the wisest choice he can make, I dread what would happen if he is elected Pres. But fortunately, that will not happen.
